Local Families Open Homes to Golfers

ROGERS, Ark. (FOX24) - More than eighty of the golfers competing in this year's Walmart Northwest Arkansas Championship are staying with families in the community.

Lee Lopez is back in Rogers for her third NWA Championship. Every year, she stays with the Hanus family.

Majorie Hanus said her family wants Lopez to feel as though she's at home. The Hanuses stock up on healthy foods and try to show Lopez some of the local sights in her little free time.

Lopez said the Hanuses are the picture of Southern hospitality.

"They are always just so generous with their time and their home and you know that they respect your schedule and you're here to work but they also want you to have a nice time and feel relaxed and at home and I think they do an awesome job," Lopez explained.

"She's like our adopted daughter for the week so it's a lot of fun." Hanus said.

Lopez said she typically travels 18 to 30 weeks a year and it's nice being able to stay in a home, rather than a hotel.
