UPDATE: Machete-wielding Suspect Wanted in Connection with Woman's Death Arrested

Pocola, Okla. (KFTA) - UPDATE: A man armed with a machete and wanted in connection with a woman's death has been arrested.

Steven Asher, 31, who is the suspect in the death of a woman whose body was found in a Pocola city par, has been apprehended.

A woman who is believed to be a witness has been detained, according to authorities.

Authorities said Amanda Milar died as a result of a stabbing.

Asher was not found in possession of the machete or another weapon when he was apprehended, authorities said.


A man armed with a machete on the loose near Pocola, Oklahoma after a woman's body discovered in a city park.

Law enforcement was dispatched to J.L. Swink Municipal Park in Pocola around 8:30 a.m. for a body that was discovered in the park.

The suspect in the death investigation is Steven Asher, 31, according to a dispatcher with the LeFlore County Sheriff's Office.

Asher is described as a white male, about 6 feet tall, 130 pounds, with green eyes and blondish-brown hair. 

He was last seen in the area where the woman's body was discovered with no shirt, denim shorts, and blood all over his face according to dispatch.

Dispatch confirmed he was carrying a machete.

Asher is on foot in the area where the body was discovered. Pocola Police department, Oklahoma Highway Patrol, and the LeFlore County Sheriff's Office are currently on the scene.

Capt. Philip Pevehouse with Sebastian County Sheriff's Office said deputies are monitoring the situation in Pocola and are making sure Asher does not cross the border.
