Give A Kid A Miracle: Holiday Party for Inpatient Kids

News

The holidays are meant to be spent at home with the ones you love, but for inpatient kids at Arkansas Children’s Northwest that’s not an option.

As a way to get the kids who will spend Christmas in a hospital room into the holiday spirit, the hospital hosted a holiday party on Wednesday.

“It helps them cope while they’re here. It helps them be distracted,” said Child Life Specialist Stephanie Dunlap.

Along with their families, the kids were able to build gingerbread houses, eat sweets, and even Santa made a special, early trip into town. “He gave me Legos,” recalled Noah Hernandez, a patient at Arkansas Children’s Northwest.

The event was a festive celebration that Dunlap said provided a much bigger purpose for the inpatient kids.”We try provide activities that they’re used to seeing and used to doing to provide some normalcy.”
