A fundraiser was held in Little Rock to build a gold star family monument on the Arkansas state capitol lawn.
Margarita Orton’s husband and the father to her three kids was killed in action in Iraq back in 2004.
Sergeant Marnaser Orton was killed when a mortar hit him. Four others died at the same time.
Margarita explains why this monument is more than marble and lettering.
“This monument is kind of very important. It is important for any of the families because it’s a way to keep them alive and going so its very important,” Margarita says.
Sgt. Orton was killed in April 2004 and since then, more men and women have put their lives on the line to defend our freedom.
While Orton may have paid the ultimate price, his sacrifice will never be forgotten.
