LITTLE ROCK, AR — The Arkansas House passed a bill to make rehoming, or giving away an adopted child to a non-relative, a felony in Arkansas. The bill was introduced after controversy surrounding West Fork State Representative Justin Harris’ rehoming of two adopted children, one of whom was later sexually assaulted in their new home.

Representative Harris resigned from his position as vice chair of a house committee, but is still in office. If convicted of rehoming a child a person could face five years of prison time.
