The Trump administration wants to require anyone receiving food assistance to work, including people right here in Arkansas.
The White House unveiled a proposed rule expanding work requirements for those in the supplemental nutrition assistance program, or SNAP.
SNAP already requires non-disabled, working-age adults, without dependents to have jobs. States can waive that requirement for areas where unemployment is at least 10% or there are not enough number of jobs.
The proposed rule would make it harder for states to receive those waivers, including Arkansas, which currently has an unemployment rate of 3.5%
