Hutchinson Signs Law Requiring Newborn Screening for Spinal Disease

Governor Asa Hutchinson signed into law an act requiring newborn screening for a spinal disease.

Hutchinson signed Act58 into law on Tuesday.

The law requires screenings for spinal muscular atrophy be performed on newborns.

The new law also mandates that insurance policies cover such screenings.

Newborn is defined as a child who is 29 days old or younger.
