Acting City Administrator Jeff Dingman has selected Major Dean Pitts as the interim Chief of Police.
Last week, Kevin Lindsey, former Chief of Police, turned in his resignation letter to the Fort Smith Police Department. On Monday, Lindsey gave a press conference announcing his departure.
Pitts, who is the current Division Commander of the Administrative Support Services Division, started his career with the Fort Smith Police Department in 1991.
The Department currently has three Division Commanders and it is standard protocol for those commanders to serve as Chief of Police on a rotational basis during the Chief’s absence, according to the department.
