A sheriff’s office is paying tribute to one of its own who was killed in the line of duty.
The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office dedicated a personalized chair for Deputy Sonny Smith.
Smith was killed in May 2015 after searching for a burglary suspect.
Several people spoke about his service to his community and how he’ll be remembered for his sacrifice.
“This dedication means a lot to me because it shows that not only people are showing their support for law enforcement but it brings the community together,” former Deputy Larry Jones says.
The chair was donated to the department from Saving a Hero’s Place, an organization that customizes chairs for officers killed in the line of duty.
Smith spent eleven years with the sheriff’s office.
