KNWA Today: Celebrating National Chili Day With Winners From Chilirhea

It’s considered a comfort food, that’s perfect for the winter months.

We’re talking about chili. Thursday is National Chili Day, celebrated on the final Thursday of February.

In Spanish, chili refers to “chili pepper” and carne means “meat.”

Chili is most commonly made up of tomatoes, beans, chili peppers, meat, garlic, onions and cumin. However, there are many variations to the basic chili.

A local group, whose chili recently won the 2019 Chilirhea cookoff, stopped by KNWA Today to showcase their award-winning chili for a special occasion.

While some like beans or noodles mixed with their chili, this group took a more colorful approach. The team of Nick and Sarah Culpepper and Matt Pow shared their recipe, with one item that cannot be revealed.
