A local police department is working to help local children be better prepared for the cold weather months.
Cpl. Dallas Brashears, with the Fayetteville Police Department, started Cops With Coats For Kids three years ago with the goal of making sure children have cold weather clothing. This year’s event will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 16 at the Walmart located on Mall Avenue in Fayetteville.
Brashears said they will be collecting clothing items including coats, hats, gloves and scarves.
Elite Cleaners is sponsoring the event and will clean all the used items collected. The business makes sure the clothing is clean and serviceable before the items are given to organizations that will distribute them.
Last year the police department collected almost 250 coats. This year it’s hoping to get more than 300 of them.
