A group of young women in our area are encouraging other young women to enter the field of STEM.
The American Institute of Chemical Engineers along with the Society of Women Engineers is putting on a WOMEN IN STEM Week the Week of November 12-16. During the week, there will be sessions of how to dress professionally, a panel on issues of women in STEM, a keynote lecturer from UC Davis, and a workshop for children. In a partnership with Mattel and the Amazeum, the College of Engineering is holding a workshop for 225 girls ages K-5 from around the region. This workshop will be designed to expose young girls to science and each one of the participants will receive an Engineer Barbie. Other parts of this workshop will include hands on activities with Mattel Tinkering Studio, Hotwheels, Amazeum Circuits Exhibit, Making Ice Cream, and representatives from Women’s Athletics who are in STEM to sign autographs and inspire.
