#GivingTuesday helping wildlife refuge efforts

EUREKA SPRINGS, Ark. (KNWA) — It’s Giving Tuesday, a day to honor the holiday season by giving to charities and nonprofits.

Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge in Eureka Springs is hoping to raise $40,000.

The sanctuary works to save tigers, leopards, bobcats, and other exotic animals from dangerous conditions.

“People don’t know that there aren’t laws protecting these animals,” animal curator, Emily McCormack said. “We’re always advocating for the animals and hoping to change this someday so we won’t even have to exist.”

McCormack said that it’s important for people to be a voice for the animals.

“We’ve rescued them all over the country, from sometimes deplorable conditions, whether it was a facility shut down or people’s backyards,” McCormack said. “None of them deserved the life that they had before the sanctuary.”
