Wednesday evening, athletes went for the gold in Omaha for Olympic swimming trials.
And one of the many hitting the pool — a high school senior from right here in Northwest Arkansas!
A watch party was held in Springdale by the swimming club, AquaHawgs.
Upcoming Bentonville High School Senior Taylor Pike is an avid swimmer, and a small crowd gathered in Springdale Wednesday to cheer her on.
Family and friends met at MJ’s pizzeria in Springdale to watch Taylor swim the 100 and 200 meter butterfly in tonight’s trials.
Unfortunately, Taylor did not qualify for Rio.
But her swim coach says everyone is still proud of her and her intense work ethic.
“So Taylor’s been swimming since she was three. She works hard everyday at practice, comes in with a smile, upbeat, never really has a bad practice– if she does there’s something really wrong,” said John Mosley, a coach for the AquaHawgs.
But Mosley says, this isn’t the end of the road for Taylor…she and her sister Haley will swim at World Juniors in Amsterdam in mid July.
