Lake Atalanta Sees Parking Problems

When the park at Lake Atalanta opened in October, the City of Rogers says they knew it’d be an important part of everyday life for residents.

So far that’s proving true. According to the city, a recent study says since January the park has seen more than 40,000 visitors. With all those visitors, there is not enough parking for everyone.

Ben Cline with the City of Rogers says the city heard throughout the design process that residents wanted an open and natural looking space. Residents also wanted commercial buildings on site removed. Cline says at this point in order to add more parking, the city would have to remove new added green space.

Cline says, “We’d love to be able to have a parking spot for every single person that wants to come down there, but due to the popularity of the park and the geography of the area, it’s not realistic to be able to offer parking for every single person that wants to come there.”

Cline says whereas parking at the lake itself may be full, it’s integrated into an area where there is a lot of parking. He suggests trying to park in Downtown Rogers, or at the Rail Yard Bike Park if all the parking at Lake Atalanta is full.
