BENTONVILLE, Ark. (KNWA) — A historic lake could see some major changes in the near future.
The dam at Lake Bella Vista is crumbling and in need of repairs.
The Bentonville Parks and Recreation Department hosted a task force meeting earlier today to discuss designs for a master plan to fix it.
Three different plans were presented, including a reconstructed dam, free-flowing creek and side channel lake.
Parks and Recreation Director David Wright said the goal was to come closer to a consensus on how to move forward.
“By working and talking this thing through, we’re able to come together with conclusion of what, you know, is best for our citizens, not only today, but maybe the next five, six generations beyond us,” said David Wright, director of Bentonville Parks and Recreation.
The task force voted 8 to 2 for the plan with a free-flowing stream with a side channel lake.
Wright said he thinks this is a better option than paying to repair the lake’s dam.
The Bentonville City Council will consider the recommendation in July.
