Construction to widen portions of Interstate 49 will impact traffic next week in Springdale.
Beginning Monday night, July 25, east and westbound lanes on Johnson Mill Boulevard (Exit 69) will be alternately closed between the I-49 ramp intersections, according to the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department. Traffic on I-49 will not be affected. The overnight lane closures will take place from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. until Saturday, July 30. Traffic will be controlled using signage, barrels, and flaggers.
Crews will be painting structural steel girders at the I-49 overpass on Johnson Mill Boulevard. The project is part of AHTD’s Connecting Arkansas Program and includes widening 4.5 miles of I-49 to three lanes in each direction. The work extends from U.S. Highway 71B in Johnson to U.S. Highway 412 in Springdale. The $28.3 million project is anticipated to be complete in late 2016.
