(KNWA via KARK) — The largest solar field in Arkansas will become fully commissioned on Thursday, officials say.
The 100-acre solar field was built in East Camden by Silicon Ranch Corp., and Aerojet Rocketdyne will purchase the electricity generated from the field for its 1,200-acre East Camden facility.
The solar field was completed in November and can generate enough electricity to power 2,400 single-family homes, according to Aerojet Rocketdyne.
Excess solar energy generated by the field will be released to the Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corporation.
The field was constructed in November 2015 and began testing soon after. Thus far, tests have found “zero power anomalies,” according to Aerojet Rocketdyne.
President and CEO of Silicon Ranch Matt Kisber said the construction of the solar field was a “seamless process.”
“We could not ask for a better partnership to bring the first large-scale solar energy facility to Arkansas,” Kisber said. “Silicon Ranch echoes the importance of bringing renewable generation to rural America. This project should assist in additional positive economic impact for the Camden area while providing a reliable, low-cost energy source for Aerojet Rocketdyne and AECC.”
