FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA) — A local energy company is taking to the skies to inspect power lines in a safer way.
Ozarks Electric Cooperative, along with Honeywell, demonstrated how it uses drones to look at all 150 power lines it has towering above.
Representatives of Ozarks Electric said this allows them to efficiently inspect their lines with less man-power trekking across rough areas.
“That can take up to 2 to 3 weeks. We have some hilly terrain in our area so it definitely poses a safety issue,” said Chris Halloway with Ozarks Electric Cooperative.
Previously, the company also used a helicopter for inspecting the lines, but they say the drones streamline the process.
