There are several events happening around Northwest Arkansas on Monday to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith will host a commemorative celebration, “The Trumpet”.Nine local high school students will be participating in a panel discussion. After the breakfast there will be a march around campus ending at the Bell Tower. The event begins at 7:45 a.m.
Tri Cycle Farms in Fayetteville is hosting a day of community service in honor of Dr. King. That includes planting trees and victory garden beds. Also serving the annual “Stone Soup” community meal. The event goes from noon until 4 p.m.
On the University of Arkansas campus, a vigil is being put on by the Associated Student Government, the Black Students Association and the NWA Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Council. The vigil is at noon in the Verizon Ballroom on the fifth floor of the Arkansas Union Building.
Arvest Bank on the Fayetteville Square will host a reception to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The event is happening in the main lobby. Newly elected Washington County Judge Joseph Wood will be the speaker. Also the Holcomb Honor Choir will be performing. The event begins at 2 p.m.
