The Arkansas Governor has proposed raising teachers minimum salaries, while another local lawmaker is wanting to bring back a bill to customize your childs education for 2019.
Arkansas State Representative Jim Dotson said he’s hopeful to bring back the School Choice bill which previously failed in years past.
The proposed bill would create education saving accounts for parents to decide how to spend the money on their childs educational needs.
That money could then be used for things like private school tuition, textbooks, college testing, summer programs, speech pathology, transportation, and school uniforms.
Dotson said the overall arching goal is for Arkansans’ to have options and opportunities to customize an education for their students that fit their individual learning needs.
“Here in Northwest Arkansas, we’re incredibly fortunate to have some of the best public schools in the state. Unfortunately, not everyone has access to all of those options, so giving Arkansans the access and the opportunity to customize that educational experience for their kid to thrive is the goal of school choice,” Rep. Dotson said.
The bill was previously co-sponsored by Representative Jim Dotson and Governor Asa Hutchinson said he would support the bill if it’s re-introduced in 2019.
