Local Organization Aims to Help the Community in a Unique Way

ROGERS, Ark. (KFTA) — A local organization is offering people the chance to get out on Beaver Lake for what could be the last time this year.

The Wake Movement, founded in February by husband and wife duo Kelli and Brad Wilborne gives people who normally wouldn’t get out on the water the chance to experience what the lake has to offer.

While wakeboarding is a summer sport, the pair came up with WAKESgiving as a way to stay relevant during the colder months and to help families in our community.

Attendees are asked to bring a food item that will go to the northwest Arkansas Food Bank.

“We feel that it’s really important for not only Thanksgiving to be celebrated with your families, but to fill the bellies of those around you,” Kelli said. “I know we’ll overeat, so we want to provide the overeating opportunity to for everybody in northwest Arkansas.”

The 1st annual WAKESgiving NWA event takes place Saturday, November 17 at 9 a.m. at 9300 N Park Rd. Rogers AR, 72756. It is a free event, but organizers ask that attendees bring a food donation.
