Local Restaurant Stays Open on Christmas, Nearly Doubles Daily Income

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA)–Local restaurants are unlocking doors and turning on ovens after going dark for Christmas Day.

Some places, however, did welcome customers regardless of the holiday.

But was it worth it financially?

After speaking with places that closed their doors for Christmas, the consensus was that it wouldn’t be worth it to stay open for one extra day.

But, one local restaurant says this one day makes all the difference.

For five years, Yolanda Soto and Isaac Garcia have kept El Taco Loco open on Christmas Day.

“They really appreciate that we are open that day, so we decided to do it every single year,” Yolanda said.
Most restaurants in the area close its doors to celebrate the holiday, some saying it’s because they won’t be profitable.
But for the owners of El Taco Loco, they’re making almost double the amount they usually do.
The owners say this year on Christmas Day, they saw nearly 400 people come in to eat their food.
“All the employees have to be here to help because we cannot keep up,” Yolanda said.

She said she and her team don’t mind the extra day, because in Mexico, they celebrate a little differently.
“The culture for America, their day is the 25th, and for us it’s the 24th,” she explained.
So she pioneered the idea of always being open for Christmas Day, even prompting her neighbor, Bucks of Asia, to do the same this year.
While she says it was a little slower Tuesday because of the competition, she still believes it’s important to be there for her customers.
“They’re so happy we’re open, they’re like ‘thank you so much for being open’ and it’s worth it. Everything. It’s really worth it,” Yolanda said.
