A national organization helping give back to veterans made its way to Northwest Arkansas and gifted this home to a local family, mortgage free.
Every 11 days a wounded veteran is presented a mortgage free home thanks to Building Homes For Heroes.
Saturday morning, that home was given to new Fayetteville locals, the Piel Family.
“There’s so many positive emotions at once that its….it leaves you speechless. There’s people out there that believed in me, and believed in our family,” said Specialist Creed Piel.
Specialist Creed Piel spent 15 years serving in both the Army and Navy. When he returned from combat, he suffered from severe PTSD, a traumatic brain injury, depression, and anxiety.
Since then Specialist Piel said he’s come a long way, and organizations like Homes for Heroes is helping him get there.
“It was like a dream to even think about, there’s an organization out here that supports veterans like this. And it’s awesome! I mean look at this it’s incredible,” said Piel.
Christie Christian from Homes for Heroes said the support doesn’t stop when these families receive their prize.
“When we gift a home to a veteran we don’t just walk away and say here’s your home. They become part of the Building Homes for Heroes family from there on out,” said Christian.
It’s just a small part in what she hopes to give back.
“They volunteer for me, the least i can do is volunteer for them,” said Christian.
After walking through his new home for the first time, all Specialist Piel could say was “thank you”. And with Northwest Arkansas as his new home, he said he plans to give back to local veteran organizations.
