Lowell Mayoral Candidates Face Off in Debate

LOWELL, Ark. (KNWA) — After the first scheduled debate didn’t turn out as planned, the two Lowell mayoral candidates faced each other in a formal debate Thursday.

Incumbent Mayor Eldon Long invited his challenger Chris Moore for a debate last week, but Moore let him know he couldn’t make it.

Long continued with the event as planned and without Moore.

Both candidates showed up on Thursday at Tucker Elementary for the debate hosted by the Rogers-Lowell Chamber of Commerce.

Each candidate submitted 10 questions to be answered and they took 10 more questions from the public.

Long: “What we’re hoping is that some of these issues that have been going around town and some of the misinformation that both sides get to clear those matters up.”

Moore: “Hear from the community as to what their concerns are so we can both present our positions on what’s going on and how we can move forward in Lowell.”

Moore said he couldn’t attend the previous debate because it was his daughter’s 12th birthday and had promised her a daddy-daughter date.
