A group of women from the University of Illinois have traveled to Northwest Arkansas to inspire girls to take an interest in STEM.
The Maker Girl group partnered with the Northwest Arkansas Fab Lab for an event on the Fayetteville Square on Friday. They hosted a creative re-use fun day with some low tech projects for girls, ages 7-10, to enjoy. Maker Girl uses a piece of technology to capture the interest of the girls.
“This summer we are going on a road trip across the country and teaching 3-D printing to girls in 19 states and 50 different communities,” explained Maker Girl Engagement Director Stephanie Hein.
Hein tells us the program started after the University of Illinois recognized there was a lack of women in the engineering program, and decided to change that.
