Man Charged for Fatally Shooting Woman He Mistook for Deer

A Johnson County man has been formally charged with manslaughter for the death of a woman killed when she was mistaken for a deer.

Dale Williams, 61, was arraigned in Johnson County Circuit Court on the manslaughter charge for the death of 72-year-old Jane Rust, according to Penney R. Prickett, deputy clerk and records custodian for the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

Rust was walking with her sister near Oark in November when she was shot and killed. Williams was arrested for the shooting.

Williams was booked into Johnson County Detention Center after court and released on his own recognizance. His next scheduled court date is March 8, 2019.
