LEFLORE COUNTY, Okla. (KNWA) — The LeFlore County man accused of killing his girlfriend with a knife and attacking a neighbor with a machete has been formally charged with murder.

Steven Wayne Asher, 31, of Vian was formally charged in District Court with first-degree murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and misdemeanor assault and battery.

Amanda Millar, 27, was found lying dead in her driveway in the 500 block of Fuller Avenue. Authorities believed that her boyfriend Asher had fled the scene, Michael Roeder, an investigator with the Pocola Police Department, stated in a court document.

“It was apparent after speaking with witnesses/victims from the scene that Ms. Asher had performed acts of violence against Mill Millar resulting in her death,” Roeder said.

Kim Searcy, a neighbor, told police that she came home and saw Asher punching Millar. She said she was trying to calm the situation down when Asher went behind the residence and came back armed with what appeared to be a machete, according to Roeder.

Searcy said Asher charged at her and Millar and struck her with the machete on her left shoulder and the left side of her neck, but did not cut her. Roeder noted that there was bruising on the left side of Searcy’s neck.

A witness named Cody Welch said that Asher hit Millar with a closed fist numerous times. Welch told Roeder that he attempted to stop Asher, but Asher punched him in the face, giving him a bloody nose and busted lip. Roeder noted that Welch had light bruising on his left cheek.

After Asher struck Welch, he went inside the residence and came back out with a knife. He swung the knife at Millar, striking her numerous times, including in her neck, Roeder said.

Asher fled the scene. Millar applied pressure to her neck and collapsed in the driveway of a home across the street. A short time later she died from her injuries, Roeder said.

Asher was located by Oklahoma Highway Patrol in a field to the east of Oliver Street. He tried to run, but was ultimately captured.

Asher later admitted to police that he argued with Millar and struck her with a knife, Roeder said.
