FAYETTEVILLE, AR (NBC/FOX) — KNWA Northwest Arkansas News [KNWA-TV] is proud to announce Marissa Kargas as its new evening co-anchor! Kargas will join Nate Kuester on the news desk at 5:00, 6:00 & 10:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The announcement was made by Lisa Kelsey, Vice President/General Manager of the television station, and Lisa Brence, News Director.

“We are very proud of this decision and know how hard Marissa has worked to grow her presence in our market,” Kelsey said. “Marissa brings a lot of passion for the area, as well as her job as a journalist. This will be a great transition for both parties as we continue our mission to best serve our communities.

“Marissa has an energy and love for Northwest Arkansas that jumps off the screen,” said Brence. “Her positive attitude, kind heart and welcoming smile personify everything KNWA News stands for, and she’s willing to go the extra mile to connect with our viewers. We’re excited for her to take on a larger role at KNWA, and to continue her deep involvement in this community we love living in!”

“Northwest Arkansas is my home. I am committed to our community and our incredible team at KNWA. After years of helping folks start their day off right, I am truly looking forward to bringing that energy to the evenings!” Kargas said.

Marissa Kargas joined KNWA in 2011 as a general assignment reporter. She quickly moved to the weekend shift, producing and anchoring the KNWA & FOX24 weekend newscasts. In 2014, she started getting up early to co-anchor KNWA Today and the FOX24 News at 7:00 a.m.

Kargas grew up on the West Coast, making her way from Washington to California. She graduated from San Diego State University, then packed up and moved to Arkansas, not knowing she would fall in love with the Natural State. Her husband, Jonathan, is a microbiologist and a strength and conditioning coach in Fayetteville. They have a dog named Griffey, after Ken Griffey, Jr., who loves running in the yard and sleeping in the sun. They look forward to starting a family in Northwest Arkansas, especially now that they have loved ones nearby. Marissa’s mom, two younger brothers and younger sister all moved to Northwest Arkansas from California. It’s a hard place to beat! You can often spot the Kargas family driving down rural country roads, sipping local coffee, shopping at small businesses and enjoying every aspect of life in Arkansas.

Marissa Kargas will debut as the new evening co-anchor on KNWA at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, February 27.
