We now have a timeline for when medical marijuana could become available to Arkansans.
We’re told it will be Spring of 2019 at the earliest.
Two cultivators report they could have product available by April. Two others say it’ll be by June or July.
The fifth, Newport’s Delta Medical, could also have a product ready by Summer but the company is currently in limbo.
Delta Medical is trying to change its location to a mile and a half down the road, across from the Arkansas Department of Correction’s crimes unit.
This comes after a protest letter was filed against their current location by ASU Newport.
“We are willing to pay this additional sum and close immediately in order to avoid possible further delays and get our business up and running in order to supply medical marijuana to Arkansans who need it and are qualified,” Delta Medical Cannabis Company President Don Parker says.
The question at hand is ASU Newport considered a school.
The medical marijuana commission’s rules say no. Colleges and universities are not considered schools.
But a lawmaker requested an Attorney General opinion.
The commission voted to get that before deciding whether Delta Medical can move. That decision could be made as early as next week.
