Mercy Doctor Arrested on Drug Charges Is Back at Work


A doctor at Mercy Hospital Northwest is back to seeing patients after drug charges against him were dropped.

Dr. Robert Stuppy is back to work after he was arrested in September for possession and manufacturing a controlled substance, unlawful use of weapons, and stealing in Mcdonald County, Missouri, according to Mercy’s Communications Director, Jennifer Cook.

Stuppy resummed seeing his patients at Mercy Clinic Cardiology on January, 21.

The cardiologist’s wife, Beck Stuppy, was also arrested for drugs. 

Becky Stuppy pleaded guilty in November and was sentenced to five years of probation. 

The couple was investigated after receiving a tip about a marijuana grow operation, according to the Mcdonald County Sherriff’s Office.

Detectives executed a search warrant of the couples home and found roughly 16 pounds of marijuana and ten rifles in a locked safe room. 

Mercy Hospital is located at 2710 S Rife Medical Ln.

A Mercy Hospital doctor has been indefinitely suspended from the hospital following an arrest.

According to Sgt. Shannon Jenkins with the Benton County Sheriff’s Office, Dr. Robert Joseph Stuppy faces several charges including possession of a controlled substance, manufacturing a controlled substance, unlawful use of weapons and stealing.

Jennifer P. Cook, communications director for the hospital, released the following statement regarding the suspension of Dr. Stuppy:

“Mercy administrators have been made aware of serious criminal charges alleged against Dr. Robert Stuppy. Based on the charges brought against him, the decision was made to suspend Dr. Stuppy indefinitely. He has been relieved of all clinical and administrative duties pending an internal review of this matter.”
