The world has lost another hero, leaving a nearby city and others in mourning.
The Noel Fire Department, just across the Arkansas border, found out one of their own was killed while battling wildfires in Northern California.
38-year-old volunteer firefighter Garrett Paiz.
He was known as “Taco.”
He joined the department about a year ago as a paid volunteer, but left a lasting impression on his fire family.
“Garrett lived for the fire service, you know, he was always ready to go to work, you know, hard working guy. He was always just a kind of a pleasant to have around, he was always smiling and laughing,” Chief Brandon Barrett of the Noel Fire Department said.
Chief Barrett says a burial service will be held for Paiz in California on the October 27.
They hope to also hold a memorial service in Missouri some time after that.
