“Monster” That’s What a Shooting Victim Called her Former Boyfriend

A shooting Thursday night, March 15, left one dead and another injured. One victim is now calling him a monster after he injured her and killed her girlfriend.

“Officers were dispatched to the scene, upon arrival we did discover two victims with injuries at the apartment,” says Corporal Dallas Brashears with the Fayetteville Police Department.

Dekota James Harvey, 22, entered an apartment where he recently lived with his girlfriend, at the 900 Block of Leverett in Fayetteville, according to Fayetteville police.

The victims were no strangers to Dekota Harvey’s bursts of anger.

“Right now we do believe the victims knew each other, so we don’t believe this was a random crime,” says Brashears.

Twenty-year-old Elizabeth Dawson was shot in the chest and killed by Harvey.

Twenty-one-year-old Courtney Willie was shot in the leg. She is now recovering at Washington Regional Medical Center.

According to the affidavit, Willie and Harvey lived together in the apartment where the shooting happened and was his ex-girlfriend.

Harvey was arrested just last year for hitting his girlfriend. According to that affidavit, Harvey said he punched her in the face throwing her to ground.

As far as Thursday’s fatal shooting goes, police say an argument broke between Harvey and one of the victims leading to shots fired.

Willie tells Fox 24 in a statement regarding the loss of her girlfriend, “I loved her with all that I had, and he took everything from me within 10 minutes. She and I had dreams that will never be accomplished because of his anger and rage.  I just wanted to be happy and make her happy.  She was so beautiful and so charismatic.  All she lived for was to make me happy and the same from me.  Now I will never get the chance to because Dekota is a ‘monster.’  I hope that he knows how lonely I feel as he sits there with only his thoughts. For once I knew that she was happy with me, and he took that all away from her.”

According to Harvey’s Facebook page, he also served in the military. He now is accused of Capital Murder and Attempted Capital Murder. He is being held at the Washington County Jail without bond.
