Over 150 new charges have been filed against a woman accused of running a puppy mill in rural Madison County.
According to Madison County sheriff Phillip Morgan, the operator of the puppy mill now faces an additional 27 felonies and 150 misdemeanor charges.
oyce Johnson, 67, was arrested in March on two misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty after nearly 300 dogs were rescued from her property in Wesley.
Last week, Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Joel Cape filed the nearly 200 additional charges of aggravated cruelty to animals, which is punishable by up to 6 years in prison, $10,000 in fines, and psychological evaluations.
The rescued dogs were taken to shelters throughout the country and were put up for adoption.
