A tornado recently tore through Ruston, La., killing a mother and son.
The tornado struck early Thursday (April 25) morning.
It killed Kendra Butler and her son Remington, just four days before Remington’s 15th birthday.
He was a student at Ruston High School, and his mother had recently started working towards her Master’s degree.
Family members say the two were inside the home with Kendra’s other son Cameron and her niece. They were taking cover when two trees fell on the home.
Since the news broke, family members say they have received nothing but love.
“My nephew said he shined the light in his brother’s face and his eyes were closed like he was gone,” said Shevondalyn Butler, the victims’ sister, and aunt.
Family members also said people have been stepping in to cover funeral costs and help out the other children in the house.
Cleanup efforts in the area are underway as several businesses in the area were also destroyed.
