Mother Speaks Out After Son Was Targeted With a Knife at School

A Bentonville mom is left worried for her son’s safety after a classmate took a knife to school planning to hurt him.

Mary Mae Elementary School in Bentonville — a place Tasha Davis’ 10-year-old son now fears.

“I received a call at 2:09 p.m. that someone had brought a knife to school and wanted to hurt my son,” Davis said.

Davis said the school district informed her on Wednesday afternoon (January 16) that a group of girls were recruiting other kids to join the plan earlier that day.

“They were showing the students the knife in a backpack and asked if they wanted to help, then that student told a teacher what was going on,” Davis said.

Police confirm a police report has been filed by the Bentonville School District regarding the incident.

The police nor the school are releasing any details at this time.

Davis’ son is back to school, but his focus isn’t on the books.

“I asked him, ‘why can’t you sit still in school,’ and he told me ‘I’m scared more people are going to bring a knife,'” Davis said.

Monday (January 21) Bentonville Schools released this statement:

“We take this incident seriously. Federal law prohibits us from discussing any details but we have taken every step possible to ensure the safety of our students.”

“I think it was more like, ‘let’s keep our face clean and make sure no one know that bad things happen at our schools and not let parents know what is going on,'” Davis said.

Davis said after this traumatic event she just wants to know why her son was the target and why she was notified hours after the incident happened.

“I don’t blame anyone,” Davis said. “I want to talk to them. I want to know the other side of the story. And I don’t blame the school I just think how it was handled is very upsetting.”

Davis said the school district is to notify her when the girls return back to school.

Police and Bentonville schools are not releasing any information on future punishments, if any.
