ELKINS, Ark. (KFTA) — Senior citizens are using southern bluegrass music to raise money for their activity center.
The Music for Meals campaign is the biggest fundraiser of the year and is generating revenue for the Elkins Senior Center and Meals on Wheels.
This is an essential program that supplements the diets of elderly people all across Northwest Arkansas.
The director for the center said it’s hard to raise funds, but music is a tried-and-true method to get people excited.
“They love music and it’s good bluegrass music, that’s their favorite, so we just try to keep them active. Some of them walk over here, I went and picked them up, some drive and we all just get together to be active and social. We just always stay busy at the Elkins Senior Center,” said Richard DelSoto, director of Elkins Senior Center.
It’s not just funds that are needed. The Elkins Senior Center is also looking for volunteers to drive the bus and help out in the kitchen.
