A wreath-laying ceremony in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day will be held at the memorial dedicated to the slain civil rights activist at the National Mall.

Senator Cory Booker is among those attending the National Action Network’s annual King breakfast in Washington, D.C. The New Jersey democrat made history last week, becoming the first senator to testify against a colleague’s nomination in opposing Jeff Sessions for Attorney General.

President Obama will participate in a service event in honor of Dr. King.

This past weekend in the Nation’s Capital, thousands gathered for an MLK march. The National Action Network, founded by the Reverend Al Sharpton, sponsored the We Shall Not Be Moved  march and rally. Participants marched from the Washington Monument to a park near the Martin Luther King Jr. memorial.

“We’re going to stand up for Eric Garner. And we’re going to stand up for Walter Scott. And we’re going to stand up for Tamir Rice. You may switch presidents, but we just gonna switch legs and keep marching,” said Al Sharpton.

The National Action Network says the march was designed to protect the civil rights and voting rights of people who they say have been excluded.
