New Details About Tracy Morgan Car Crash

KNWA via TODAY — There are new details about the deadly highway crash that badly injured actor and comedian, Tracy Morgan. Last year, a luxury limo-bus carrying Morgan and six others flipped after being slammed by a Walmart tractor trailer.

Word of settlement between Morgan and Walmart came this week, although specific details are not being released.

However, Morgan’s lawyer, Benedict Morelli, shared some insight with TODAY’s Matt Lauer Thursday.

“You know Tracy was close to death, and Tracy tells me every time I see him that he has a new lease on life,” Morelli said. “And he’s very happy to have put the litigation behind him and have closure to this tragic part of his life.”

Walmart has already settled with the family of James McNair, the man killed in the crash. His children reportedly received $10 million.

In the meantime, Kevin Roper, the truck driver accused of driving some 20 mph over the speed limit and with too little sleep, pled not guilty to charges that include death by auto.

There are rules in place to keep truck drivers from falling asleep at the wheel. Federal regulations limit truckers to 11 hours of driving during a 14-hour work day. Also, they are allowed no more than 70 hours a week on the road without extra breaks. However, money appears to be a concern with some. Recent surveys find “fewer” driving hours lead to lost wages.
