FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA) — Several members of the community came Tuesday night to welcome Fayetteville’s new school superintendent.
Dr. John L. Colbert was promoted to the position when Dr. Matthew Wendt was fired amid sexual harassment accusations from a Fayetteville teacher.
Colbert has been with the Fayetteville school district for more than 40 years.
In honor of his promotion to the district’s highest position, a meet-and-greet was held to honor Colbert’s dedication to Fayetteville.
But he says his work is far from over.
“Started working on some initiatives,” Colbert said. “We’ll probably go ahead and continue those, and especially carrying out the mission that has been created by the school board, and making sure that we continue to be that great district.”
During his time with Fayetteville schools, Colbert has been a principal of Jefferson Elementary School and was a driving force behind the opening of opening Holcomb Elementary.
