New Program Pairs Siloam Springs First Responders with Kids as Mentors

News

Big Brothers Big Sisters in Siloam Springs launched a new pilot program called ‘Bigs with Badges’ in partnership with the Siloam Springs School District.

Members of the Siloam Springs Police and Fire Departments are taking part as mentors in the program. Firefighter Lieutenant Jeff Grass and his ‘little’ Jair are just one of the big/little pairs who talked about the benefits.

“We usually come once a week and we’ll come for the lunch hour,” Grass shared. “Sometimes we’ll eat lunch together and then we’re able to go off and play games or we can go outside and play sports or whatever.”

“It is a program that aims at connecting our law enforcement, our firefighters, our first responders if you will with our littles who need a mentor,” Big Brothers Big Sisters Siloam Springs Program Manager Tiffany Hansen explained.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Siloam Springs Program Manager Tiffany Hansen said ‘Bigs with Badges’ is a great way for police and firefighters to make a positive impact with the children and the community.
