New Years DWI Reports

News

SPRINGDALE, Ark. (KNWA)–Springdale police report they are seeing an increase in drinking and driving around the New Year holiday.

They reported five total DWIs between New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day this year, that’s up two from last year.

In Bentonville, police report four arrests for drinking and driving.

In Fayetteville, police did not have the numbers for Monday night, but report a nearly 90 percent decrease in DWIs from 2017 to 2018 on New Year’s Day.

On Jan. 1, 2018, there was a murder that took the attention of the on-duty officers, resulting in only one person behind bars with a DWI.

But, Sgt. Tony Murphy said they’re seeing an overall decrease in drinking and driving because of something else.

He said, “We’ve definitely had a decrease because of the Uber, those types of organizations. People are more responsible with being able to use an app.”

We also reached out to Rogers police about the numbers they were seeing but received no response.
