Newly-Renovated Walton Arts Center Opens

After eighteen months of construction the Walton Arts Center made its big debut Saturday.

“This facility is the cornerstone of our city’s theater arts district,”  Fayetteville Mayor Lioneld Jordan//Mayor said.

The big reveal, causing big waves in the Arkansas arts scene.

“Making Northwest Arkansas a center, and home, and a promoter of the arts,” Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson said.

The new facility cost  $23 million and features a completely new exterior, backstage upgrades and an expanded lobby area.

“I’ve never won a major championship, but I feel like we just did,” Walton Arts Center President and CEO Peter Lane said.  

“It’s beautiful, they’ve done such a great job renovating it,” WAC visitor Erin Meier said.

Lane said watching the faces of people seeing the renovations for the first time, brings a smile to his.

“The families come in and they’re just digging it,” he said.

The expansion also let’s the WAC host more family friendly events one NWA parent said is important for her kids.

“I love that my children can have exposure to the arts,” Meier said.

The WAC is dancing into it’s 25th Anniversary Season to a new tune.

“If you’ve never set foot in the Walton Arts Center, now is the time. There is going to be something here, in our programs that you will like, so come see us,” Lane said.

The 25th Season is bring in big name shows like the Nutcracker and the Book of Mormon.
