Elkins Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire at a mobile home early this morning.

They were dispatched just after 4:00 a.m.

Chief JD DeMotte says they are not sure how it started. They do know an RV caught fire and has been completely destroyed. The fire spread to a house 200 feet away, causing some damage.

The homeowner told the department that he was not there when the fire started. He was living in the mobile home, and using the house for storage or as a workshop area. Crews believe a small gas powered heater left on in the RV is what could have started the fire.

The neighbors called in the fire, but the department says they received multiple calls from others who saw it from the road.

There are no injuries.`
