After the Supreme Court’s ruling advocates and gender equality groups in Northwest Arkansas are responding.

Transgender equality activists are calling President Trump’s ruling a major blow to the LGBT community that is cruel and irrational.

The policy first announced on Twitter by President Trump in July 2017 stated that, “The United States Government would not accept or allow transgender individuals to serve in any capacity of the U.S. military.”

Trump adding,”the military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and distruption that transgenders in the military would entail.”

KNWA spoke with the NWA Equality Group which released the follow statement:

“We are disappointed in the Supreme Court’s ruling today, which has the potential to harm many active duty service members and potential recruits. Ultimately we believe the transgender military ban is unconstitutional and discriminatory and will be struck down by the courts. Everyone should be able to serve their country honorably regardless of who they are.”
