Close to 2,000 leaders from across the country are asking President Donald Trump to protect DACA. Here in Northwest Arkansas, two mayors have signed their names on a letter to show support for the program. 

Springdale Mayor Doug Sprouse and Fayetteville Mayor Lioneld Jordan both agree they signed to show their support for their young community.

They both said they hope President Trump can see taking these young people from the only country most of them know, would be the wrong way to approach the situation.

“I certainly hope the President of the United States continues to do DACA,” said Mayor Lioneld Jordan.

Over 10,0000 Arkansans are DACA recipients. That number right here in NWA, 6,000. 

“The reality is we all in Arkansas back our children. This is proof of our political leadership making yet another statement behind that,” said Mireya Reith, Founding Exec. Director of Arkansas United Community Coalition 

City officals from across the country signed a letter to the president and his administration to keep DREAMers from deportation.
 
Fayetteville and Springdale mayors signed their names in support of DACA.
 
In the letter to the president, leaders pointed out the economic impact DREAMers make in their communities.
 
“Some of the numbers, just on the economic side of it, over the next 10 years we could lose over 400 billion dollars in the GDP in this country,” said Jordan.
 
“We’re not just talking about over 10,000 DACA students, we’re talking about 10,000 employers who have come to benefit and rely on these bi-cultural, bi-literate Arkansans,” said Reith.
 
Jordan said it’s important for NWA to stick together especially for the youth. He is hopeful the president will see the signatures and keep DACA.
 
“It’s children that have come here, and they’ve spent their life here they’ve grown up here..they’ve been educated here. They work here. I think for them to be under the fear of possibly being deported I think it’s unfair,” said Jordan.
 
More Arkansas city officials are expected to sign for their support of DACA this Friday.
