John W. Tyson and Joe M. Steele will be honored tonight at the Arts Center of the Ozarks in Springdale from 4:30-6:00 p.m. for their upcoming induction into the Arkansas Business Hall of Fame.
The event will also mark the opening of an exhibit at the ACO highlighting the lives, careers and contributions of Mr. Tyson and Mr. Steele.
Tyson is well known for hauling a truckload of chickens to sell in Chicago and growing that success into a worldwide poultry leader.
Mr. Steele, owner of one of the nation’s most successful canning companies, was instrumental in insuring the completion of Beaver Dam, Beaver Lake, and the water treatment plant at Beaver Water District that has led to the economic growth of the region.
Steele Canning Company made spinach a household favorite through a licensing agreement that put Popeye Spinach in kitchen cupboards across the country.
This is the 90th anniversary year of Popeye the Sailor Man.
Tyson and Steele will be inducted along with the past 11 Springdale Business Hall of Fame inductees.
