A local elementary principal was surprised with an award for positive impact.
The Arkansas Association of Elementary School Principals awarded Maribel Childress from Springdale’s Monitor Elementary the Above and Beyond Award.
Childress has been principal at Monitor for 12 years and the only principal the school has ever had.
She said her heart is for the students and makes sure they realize they have all the potential in the world to make their dreams come true.
“I don’t do what I do for awards — most principals do not,” Childress said. “We just do what we do because we love kids and we want to serve, and that is what this award is about, its about a principal’s heart.”
Beginning July 1, Childress will assume her new role as assistant superintendent for curriculum instruction and innovation for Pre-K through fifth grade for the Springdale School District.
