NWA residents have chance to experience aviation history

News

It’s your chance to take to the skies in a plane from the golden age of aviation history in Bentonville.

The Experimental Aircraft Association Ford Tri-Motor Tour is giving flights Friday through Sunday at Thaden Field aboard the EAA Ford Tri-Motor.

Known as the first luxury airliner, the Ford Tri-Motor marked the beginning of commercial flight from 1926 through 1933; that’s according to its website.

“This is the first all metal airliner that was created so it was kind of a, a big leap in technology and advancements of materials for the time,” said Bill Sleeper, Experimental Aircraft Association pilot for Ford Tri-Motor. “Didn’t last very long cause evolution was happening with engine development and airframe development, but this airplane was the first queen of the sky back then.”

Flights will run continuously through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Online booking is closed, but walk up space is available. It costs $52 for kids seventeen and under and $77  dollars for adults to take flight in the historic airplane.
