The National Weather Service’s Tulsa office issued a bulletin Thursday stating that Arkansas River flood potential in the River Valley was at life-threatening, record severity.
“Forecast flooding increased from Major to Record severity,” the Weather Service’s Thursday afternoon bulletin states. “This is a dangerous and life threatening situation.”
The bulletin states that record severe flooding is possible in Van Buren. Many areas in the city are currently flooded.
“The Arkansas River at Van Buren will continue rising to near 41.0 feet late Sunday night and then remain at that level through Tuesday,” the bulletin states. “This will exceed the flood of record, which is 38.10 feet from April 1945.”
